Short Hair Styling Must-Haves

ICYMI – I cut my hair SUPER short. This is something I had been wanting to do for a while, but I kept putting it off because I was scared. I couldn’t decide to the point where I opened it up to family, friends, and finally, Instagram. If someone had an opinion on my hair, I wanted it. I kept my fingers crossed that the wisdom of others would guide me and give me some sort of grand epiphany. Dramatic? You bet!

Most people told me to go for it. Others were apprehensive because they loved my long hair, but thought short could be fun. Some were nervous it wasn’t the right change to make so close to the wedding. A handful of people simply said, “no, don’t do it.” Ultimately, I knew this was my decision to make. After a lot of back and forth (and unwavering support from Matt and my dear friends), I decided to take the plunge, and I am SOOOOO happy I did! I feel like a brand new person. Nicole 2.0, if you will.

That being said, something that comes along with the territory of a fresh cut is you have to teach yourself how to style your hair all over again. After I washed it for the first time I felt instant panic. Did I make the right decision?! WHY wouldn’t my favorite wand work?! Do beach waves make me look like Shirley Temple now?! Spoiler alert: I definitely cannot rock the beach waves anymore. I’m not going to lie, it took about a week to get things figured out. We got there, and here are a few of my must-haves for short hair:

Farewell Frizz Line from Briogeo

The holy grail of haircare. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that we are a household of Briogeo lovers. Matt is OBSESSED with their line, and we use it for Charlie too. It’s vegan, non-toxic, and cruelty free (super important qualities). My go-to is the Farewell Frizz line. Whenever I wash my hair, I use a the shampoo, conditioner, and blow dry crème for perfect and healthy looking locks. Click here to shop the entire line

Good Behavior Spirulina Protein Smoothing Spray

After I wash and use the blow dry crème, I do a quick spray with Good Behavior. This is another heat protectant spray that also mimics a keratin treatment. True story, it really does work. As someone who has had keratin done before (yikes, sorry hair) it honestly looks just as bomb. Again, this works to prevent frizz, protect from heat, and adds a ton of shine. It’s also vegan, non-toxic, and cruelty free. Click here to shop

SinglePass Luxe 1″ Ionic Straightening & Styling Flat Iron from T3

When my hair was long, I didn’t like how it looked straight. Now that it’s short, I don’t like how it looks wavy (funny how that happens, right)?! I’ve owned this straightener for a few years now, and it DOES. THE. TRICK. It uses ceramic technology to fight frizz all day, and maintains the perfect heat. It’s an investment, but it’s worth it because it gets the job done right, and will last forever. Bonus points: if you practice, you can even create curls using it – a skill I have yet to master. Click here to shop

All of the hair clips!

The ’90s are back and here to stay, which is a HUGE relief because that means barrettes are a thing again and they make everything so much easier. It’s a quick way to add a pop of color or bling to any look, and also keeps your hair out of your face. The more the merrier – I like to wear three or four at a time. It’s aggressive, but a total look. Click here to shop
