I Said Yes To The Designer… But Not To The Dress (yet)

I’ve had tunnel vision for the past 10 years of my life. Girls typically dream about their wedding dress. The perfect silhouette. The perfect fit. The beautiful detailing. I was never one of those girls because I always had my eyes (and heart) set on a dress and dream of a different kind. My pageant competition gowns. I’ve worn six pageant dresses over the years, and this January will make SEVEN. I still haven’t found that dress just yet, so all of my focus has been scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram looking for leads and inspiration. That being said, I knew I needed to start to put in work for ANOTHER important dress. The one I’ll wear when I marry the love of my life.

As it turns out, shopping for a wedding dress is even HARDER than shopping for a pageant gown. I was getting beyond frustrated that I wasn’t finding a wedding dress that jumped out to me as being “the one.” Theoretically speaking, for me, there are probably SO MANY dresses that could be the one. It all depends on what I’m feeling that specific day.

One day I was sitting with my bestie Victoria, complaining about not liking any dresses I had seen, and she literally Googled “wedding dresses.” We figured we could browse even just for inspiration. The first website that displayed in the search was Maggie Sottero. Hmm… neither one of us had heard of this brand, but then again, neither one of us had been wedding dress shopping. We clicked the link and that’s when we saw THE DRESS. It was everything and more. I’m not even kidding, this is exactly what happened. If you know me, you know I’m a huge believer in the Universe delivering whatever you need when you need it the most. This was a sign, and I knew this dress was my dress.

I pinned a few of my favorites to my bridal board, and slept on the idea of this for a little bit. Could I really have just found my wedding dress through a random Google search? Is that even possible?! I continued to do some research into the brand and turned out I absolutely adore it and everything it stands for. Beautiful dresses. Affordable prices. Inclusive sizing. This is a brand that every woman can get behind (not to mention – Woman owned).

After browsing Instagram, I landed on a locally owned boutique near me that carried Maggie Sottero Designs – Precious Memories in Malden, MA. After making my appointment with Joyce, the owner of Precious Memories, I was excited to finally try on the wedding dress of my dreams. This is where I’d be going to try on some of the beautiful designs and get to play dress up for a day.

Joyce and I immediately hit it off. We both love fashion, but had so many similarities – from not pursuing our careers in law, and shifting focus to run our family businesses. What are the odds of that?! She has an amazing eye and such a kind heart. The day was so much fun and I loved trying on each and every dress.

Now that you’re up to speed, you’re probably like, “Nicole, SHOW US THE FREAKING WEDDING DRESS ALREADY!” Turns out, I actually can’t! Not because I’m old fashioned, but because I was able to get that beautiful perfect dress ordered via Maggie Sottero Designs Loan Sample program, and I’ll be assembling my bridal party and mom to come check it out with me when it arrives.

For now, here are some styles I absolutely loved! Being a bride for the day was such a blast – especially for me because fashion. is. life. WITHOUT FURTHER AIDEU, let’s get started!
